The Domaine de Tilly is located in Boissey-Le-Châtel in the Pays du Roumois, canton of Bourgtheroulde, Eure department.
Construction began in 1530 and lasted 5 years. Claude Le Roux was the first owner: heir to Guillaume II Le Roux, Seigneur de Bourgtheroulde, he had the Château built to establish his social status as a parliamentarian and member of the Exchequer. On his brother's death, he inherited the Château de Bourgtheroulde, which today is a prestigious hotel in Rouen.
An estate that quickly became a hunting lodge.
At the time, the Château covered 400 hectares. Over the years, the property was gradually dismantled, eventually becoming a local school. Since then, extensive renovation work was undertaken in 1990, and in 2012, the château was restored to its former glory.
An imposing east-facing façade. Beautiful and dreamy.
Today, the estate comprises three buildings:
The Château: the main façade is a blend of brick and stone, typical of the Renaissance period in Normandy. There are indications that a chapel once adjoined the Château and was destroyed during the French Revolution. The surrounding wall bears witness to the building's medieval past.
The Le Roux de Tilly motto:
"Expugna impugnates me domine", Lord, repel my enemies
suggests the various difficulties and attacks faced by the family and the Château over the centuries.
Take the time to appreciate the game hunted at the time, carved into the window surrounds.
Dream of history and love, it's possible at Château de Tilly
Inside the Château, take time to appreciate the remarkable Rihour staircase, named after the Rihour Palace in Lille. You'll be fascinated by its original 15th-century design and hypnotic atmosphere.
A unique and exceptional piece
