The commitments of Château de Tilly

Towards socially responsible luxury

Preserving our environment has become vital, as we are all aware.

That is why, during the recent renovations of the château into a 4-star hotel, and since the creation of our semi-gourmet restaurant, we have taken concrete measures to reduce our carbon footprint while preserving the authenticity and comfort of our exceptional setting.

Choosing château de Tilly means choosing a unique historical location that blends organically into its surroundings.

In order to best respect our customers, the environment, and this place steeped in history, we have chosen to work in several areas.

Gastronomy in tune with the earth

Our restaurant is committed to an eco-responsible approach, combining culinary excellence with respect for the environment. We are committed to offering our customers a gastronomic experience that promotes local products, supports short supply chain producers, and minimizes our ecological impact.

For sustainable cuisine, our menus follow the seasons.

Our chef will offer you a new menu every two months.

At Château de Tilly, quality and sustainability are at the heart of our cuisine. We work closely with local partners, such as Les Jardins de la Mésangère for seasonal permaculture fruits and vegetables, the Mont aux Roux farm for animal welfare-friendly meats, and Rouen Marée for fish sourced from Normandy fish markets. These choices guarantee fresh produce, authentic flavors, and a reduced ecological footprint, while supporting agriculture, livestock farming, and fishing in our region.

Luxury and modernity, combining comfort and sustainability

Geothermal energy & underfloor heating

As part of the renovation of our castle, we have chosen to adopt an eco-responsible approach by installing a water-to-water geothermal heat pump, a cutting-edge technology perfectly suited to the climatic variations of Normandy.

This innovative system draws heat naturally present in the groundwater, thereby reducing our energy footprint while maintaining a constant and comfortable temperature, regardless of outdoor conditions.

The castle and manor house are heated by a hydraulic underfloor heating system, allowing precise adjustment via individual thermostats in each room. This system provides gentle, enveloping warmth, ensuring optimal comfort for our guests while respecting the principles of sustainability.

Modernized piping

We have installed water-saving aerators on all taps throughout the site, including the castle, manor house, orangery, and renovated houses. These aerators work by compressing the water in a ring installed at the tap or shower head, releasing a stronger pressure at the outlet while reducing the volume of water expelled.

These aerators enable us to save 80% of water across the entire site.

The Urimat urinals installed in the castle were specifically selected for their water-saving properties. These urinals do not have a flush, saving over 100,000 liters of water per year. Cleaned in the same way as conventional urinals, they meet the hygiene requirements necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

LED lighting

We have installed LED lighting to reduce our energy consumption.

This technology makes it possible to reduce our energy consumption compared to traditional lighting, while extending the lifespan of our lights and reducing waste.

Charging stations for hybrid and electric vehicles

Charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles have been installed to promote sustainable mobility.

This initiative allows our guests to easily recharge their vehicles, thereby helping to reduce CO2 emissions and encourage the use of more environmentally friendly transportation.

To encourage other means of transportation, we also have an uncovered bicycle garage.

Daily work

Our teams, whether in the kitchen, front of house, or management, are trained in environmental issues and the implementation of good ecological practices.

We are convinced that every little gesture counts.

That is why we continuously reassess our suppliers and our working methods.

Choosing French luxury bedding

We work with Maison de la Literie, a French bedding manufacturer, and Drouault.

They provided us with all our bedding, sheets, pillows, and comforters.

By prioritizing high-end quality products, designed in France in compliance with environmental and social standards, we contribute to the preservation of traditional expertise while offering our guests eco-friendly 4-star comfort.

Eco-labeled cleaning products

Choosing cleaning products without solvents or chlorine is essential for maintaining all our surfaces.

These products, which are both effective and environmentally friendly, enable us to guarantee a healthy and safe environment for our guests. By prioritizing these products, we are helping to reduce chemical pollutants.

The Castle Gardens

With the help of our green space teams, we grow aromatic herbs that are used daily in the restaurant. These plants are organically grown and managed by us to give your dishes a unique flavor.

We also prepare some of our sorbets and jams using fruit from the various trees in the park, which are served in the restaurant and tea room.

These seasonal preparations with their unique flavors allow our customers to taste the history of the château.

We water the entire site using a rainwater harvesting system, thereby drastically reducing our water consumption.

Setting up a compost bin reduces our environmental impact by reusing food and garden waste, while producing natural compost that can be used to enrich our green spaces. By doing so, we support sustainable resource management and contribute to the preservation of our local ecosystem.

All organic waste from the entire site is recycled there.
